Selected place
Baghdad
Iraq
A city’s coordinates are those of its centre; for a birth far from it, enter the coordinates of the place itself. A meridian does not give a time zone: the worksheet asks for the clock’s offset from UT.
Lesson 5, §6
The hand-cast chart
The offset includes any daylight saving in force: New York in summer is −04:00. Look up historical offsets separately. Clock time − UTC offset = UT.
Alchabitius Semi-Arc
A pocket table of houses
Enter the LST you calculated. Read the MC (X) from the two sidereal-time columns; interpolate the Ascendant (I) and cusps XI, XII, II and III by time and then by latitude. Add 180° for each opposite cusp. Above 55° the 4-minute box can be 4′ coarse: check the result against the direct value below.
Columns every 4 minutes of sidereal time, rows every 1° of latitude, from 60° S to 60° N, as in the lesson’s tables. Southern latitudes are negative and calculated directly.
